Melinda has been Director of Word By Mouth Speech Pathology since March 2001. She graduated from La Trobe University in 1996 and obtained her Masters by Research in 2009. She was instrumental in setting up the Language Consultancy Team for the Learning Difficulties Centre, Royal Children’s Hospital.
Melinda was guest lecturer over a four year period for the Master of Speech Pathology program at the University of Melbourne, lecturing on language disorders in school age children, the link between oral language and literacy and the Speech Pathologists role in literacy learning.
In 2016 Melinda co-authored a Clinical Guideline for Speech Pathology Australia on the role of speech pathologists working literacy which she jointly presented at he AUSPELD/DSF Conference, in Perth, 2017. She also sits on the Course Advisory Committee for Speech Pathology at La Trobe University.
Melinda has conducted numerous seminars and workshops on various topics related to oral language and specific learning difficulties for parents and schools. She has supported schools and families in developing their understanding of Specific Learning Difficulties (including Dyslexia) and Developmental Language Disorder and appropriate evidenced based interventions within a Response to intervention (Rti) model.
Melinda works in both the clinic and school settings in Melbourne and regional Victoria supporting preschool, primary and secondary school students, parents and teaching staff. She is Hanen Certified and in addition to the areas of language disorder and specific learning disabilities, Melinda’s areas of interest include Speech Sound Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Language stimulation.
